Red Garland, an American pianist who gained popularity with the group he formed in 1959, joined the Miles Davis Quintet in the mid-to-late 1950s. This album was released in 1958. It features recordings made in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1957 with the quintet consisting of John Coltrane (ts), Donald Byrd (tp), George Joyner (b), and Arthur Taylor (ds). The title track, A1, unfolds a session lasting over 20 minutes with a relaxed tempo and groove, while B1 offers a similarly gentle groove in a blues format, showcasing hard bop at its finest. The warm performance of Coltrane and Byrd is also noteworthy.
A1: All Mornin’ Long
B1: They Can’t Take That Away From Me
