Released in 1986 as the second installment in the Landscape Series from the UK new age label Coda, this album is by British keyboardist Tim Cross. Produced around the theme of classical music performed on synthesizer, it features pieces by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Elgar. Even when played on synthesizer, the music rarely feels far removed from its classical origins, yet it works perfectly well as a kind of muzak-like environmental music. Bach’s A1, featuring vocals by Claire Hamill, and Schubert’s B5, with its delicate arpeggiated textures, are both well worth a listen.
A1: J.S. Bach “Excerpt from the St Matthew Passion”
B5: Franz Schubert “An Die Musik”
