This album was released in 1981 by the Tokyo Marimba Band, which was formed in 1977 around Makoto Aruga, a long-time timpanist with the NHK Symphony Orchestra. It features five performances of "The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi, an Italian composer active from the 17th to 18th centuries, and a rare ensemble performance of one of his most famous compositions. It was recorded using PCM recording, which was a revolutionary recording technology at the time, and features a very pleasant performance in which the marimbas' soft attack sound, unique to wooden marimbas, resonates in the sound field with a pleasant sense of depth.
