This is the second volume in a series of works by Toru Takemitsu, one of Japan's greatest composers, who transcended the boundaries of contemporary music and took up the challenge of composing music with a variety of experimental orientations. This is one of the earliest works to put into practice the Music Concrete, which was established three years after the world's first electronic music studio was established in West German Radio in 1951, and was introduced to Japan by Toshiro Mayuzumi and Makoto Moroi. A1, created with the help of recording engineer Shigenosuke Okuyama, is tape music composed by transforming the sound of recorded water drops. A2 is a collaborative work with the poet Shuntaro Tanikawa, a tape music composed of a montage of the voices of actors Kyoko Kishida and Hiroshi Mizushima. The four pieces on the B-side are excerpts from the film music composed for the film "Kaidan" directed by Masaki Kobayashi. All of the pieces are meticulously structured, but Takemitsu's unique perception of time and space can be felt in every corner, and even after more than 50 years, they still resonate as something completely new.
