This album was released as the first installment of the ＜ECM Special＞ compilation series, a unique project by Trio Records that produced Japanese editions of ECM Records releases starting from the mid-1970s. It includes tracks by iconic artists representing the ECM label such as Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Ralph Towner, Paul Bley, Jan Garbarek, and Paul Motian. With the exception of Corea and Paul Motian, all the tracks on this album are previously unreleased on any analog format and are exclusive to this release. This is quite a generous offering and something that you wouldn't typically expect from ECM Records.
