This is an album of gamelan music recorded in Pliatan, Bali, Indonesia by Robert E. Brown. It was released in 1972 on the Nonesuch label's famous Explorer Series, a series of field recordings of folk music from around the world. A1 is a traditional gamelan dedicated to the royal family called Sumar Paglingan. A2 is a gamelan with a lot of old religious elements. B2 is considered to be the best of Balinese classical dance. It is a unique ensemble of various instruments that play the same melody over and over again in complex patterns. The melody is somewhat similar to Japanese folk music, although the instruments and composition are different. I feel the romance of human history. It sounds very clear for a US pressing.

A1: Tabuh Gari
A2: Gambang
