This album was released as the fifth volume in the UNESCO cultural organization’s series Unesco Collection – A Musical Anthology of the Orient. It is the second installment featuring traditional music from the Islamic Republic of Iran, located on the Persian Gulf. Local musicians perform using regionally distinctive traditional instruments such as the donbak (a type of goblet drum), the nay (a reed flute widely used in Turkey and Iran), the santur (a hammered dulcimer with numerous metal strings stretched over a trapezoidal walnut box), and the tar (a long-necked string instrument played throughout Iran and neighboring countries). This recording, rich in Oriental tones and melodies, holds high historical and cultural value.
