This album was released in 1980 as the eleventh volume in Denon's "Music of Contemporary Japan 1500" series. The album features the 1968 work A1 "Prelude for Orchestra" by Teizo Matsumura, a composer of the same generation as Toshiro Mayuzumi and Toru Takemitsu, who studied under Akira Ifukube and began composing in the late 1950s; the 1964 work B1 "Concerto for Orchestra" by Akira Miyoshi, whose many works attracted attention in the late 1950s; and The NHK Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hiroyuki Iwashiro, performs B2 "Texture," one of the most famous pieces composed in 1964 by the great composer Toru Takemitsu. Teizo Matsumura's "Prelude for Orchestra," in which the sustained sounds of the strings increase and explode with the time axis, is amazing, but the tonal clusters heard in Toru Takemitsu's "Texture" are outstanding.
