This was featured in the first edition of the guidebook OBSCURE SOUND. This album was released in 1979 by Waves, a Swedish jazz quintet consisting of Kjell Jansson (b,perc), Thomas Clausen (p,keys), Conny Sjokvist (dr,perc), Hakan Brostrom (as) and Thomas Gustafson (ts). The tight sound of A1, a cover of Dewey Redman, and A3, which opens with a thick tenor/alto saxophone theme and builds to a deep, stoned spirituality, are of extremely high quality, combining ECM-like elegance with a deep, spiritual orientation that is as good as US black jazz. It is unquestionably wonderful. The best track is B1, a jazz funk track with a hint of the aftermath of Electric Miles, featuring a mysterious trippy sound of a Mini Moog that occasionally appears over the thick percussion and bass, and a saxophone that scatters single-note phrases like a sound effects system.
