In 1959 Wayne Shorter joined Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and emerged as one of Miles Davis' best-known musicians, and had since worked as one arm of Miles Davis and in progressive fusion groups such as Weather Report, where he has demonstrated his talent to the full. This album was released in 1971. Produced by Duke Person and featuring David Frieman (vb,marimba), Gene Bertoncini (g), Ron Carter (b), Cecil McBee (b), Billy Hart (ds), Al Mouson (ds), Frank Cuomo (ds,per). This is a historical masterpiece, a crossover music with ethnic overtones, looking at the new horizon of jazz that Miles Davis had opened up. Whether it was Weather Report's first album or Chick Corea's Retuen to Forever, released in 1972, this one cannot help but feel Miles' great achievement.
