An album released in 1978 by American trumpeter Woody Shaw, who took part in sessions with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, the Horace Silver Quintet, the Joe Henderson Quintet, and many other groups, while also leaving behind numerous masterpieces as a bandleader. This septet—featuring Joe Henderson (ts), Carter Jefferson (ts, ss), Steve Turre (tb), Onaje Allan Gumbs (p), Clint Houston (b), and Gene Greif (ds)—delivers a rich, full-bodied ensemble sound and outstanding performances that balance cool sophistication with striking emotional intensity. The adult-oriented grooves on tracks A2 and B3 are also exceptional. An original U.S. promo pressing has just arrived.
A2: Every Time I See You
A3: The Legend of Cheops
B3: Theme for Maxine
