The French group Workshop de Lyon was formed in the early 70's by Louis Sclavis, a saxophonist who played in Henri Taxier's group and Cecil Taylor's European Orchestra. The album was recorded live at a concert at the Forum des Halles in Paris in 1980, and features Louis Sclavis, Maurice Merle (ss,as), Christian Rollet (dr,tb) and Jean Bolcato (b). The five tracks on both sides are almost all free improvisation, with ethnic drumming and primitive interplay between saxophone and clarinet, which is breathtaking. If you like the work of Art Ensemble OfChicago, Toshiyuki Tsuchidori and Toshinori Kondo, then this is for you.
