Flute Message from Yoko

This is an album released in 1984 by Yoko Owada, a Japanese flutist who has learned from Jean-Pierre Rampal and Aurele Nicolet, and has performed many contemporary works as well as classical music. It is from Level Fontec, which Kojima Yukio of Kojima Recording was also involved in founding. This album features only flute works by Japanese composers such as Hikaru Hayashi, Toru Takemitsu, Ryohei Hirose, and Kazuoki Fujii. Sonata A1 by Hikaru Hayashi, performed in duo with Kazuoki Fujii on piano, and Flute Solo B1 by Rohei Hirose are excellent, but the flute solo A2 by Toru Takemitsu, which incorporates a poem by Shuzo Takiguchi, a poet who was a central figure in the experimental studio, is still a real treat.
