A 1978 recording by Atrium Musicae de Madrid, an early music ensemble founded in 1964 by Gregorio Paniagua, a Madrid-born early music performer and one of the foremost scholars in the field. His son Luis Paniagua—one of the key figures who helped shape the Spanish contemporary/new age scene by blending Arabic and Mediterranean classical traditions into modern music—participates as a member, along with his brother Eduardo and others.
This album presents the songs of Thibaut de Navarre, the medieval French composer known as the “poet-king,” performed through an ensemble of early instruments. Paniagua’s unique musical world, which revives the ancient sounds of Greece, the Arab world, and Andalusia in a modern context, is vividly expressed here as well. It is a truly remarkable work. This domestic edition is a superior pressing manufactured with high-quality materials.
