This is an album by Sitra Devi, a well-known dancer of the Indian classical Kathak dance style, who also worked as a singer and actress. Originally released in 1962, but, probably, this is a reissue of an album produced in 1986 on the occasion of HMV's <Indian Classical Music Festival>. The Kathak dance originated from the Kathakas, the traveling bards of ancient northern India, who passed on the stories of epic poems and ancient myths through dance, song, and music. The sound of bells on the feet of Sitra Devi conveys the scene of the dance through the music, which is very interesting.
