Judo Nohtomi, Haruhiko Nohtomi
Zen Music II
Victor (Japan) 1968

SJL-2062 (LP) textured sleeve.
sleeve : EX-(SRW)
media : EX/EX(some slightly surface noises.)

This album was released on Victor as the second in the Kinko-ryu Shakuhachi Honkyoku series under the supervision of Hidefumi Yoshikawa, author of "History of Japanese Music" and "Aesthetic Study of Japanese Music". It was performed by Judo Nortomi, a living national treasure in 1967, and Haruhiko Nortomi, who later assumed the name of Judo 2nd generation. The album contains three pieces: A1 "Shika no tohne (distant sound of deer)," which is considered one of the most popular of the classical pieces, A2 "Sanya-Sugagaki," which is said to be an arrangement of koto music for shakuhachi music and was played on a renkan (Japanese bamboo flute), and B1 "Kokuh-Reibo," a solo piece said to be one of the oldest of the classical pieces. It is interesting to hear the slow and rapid breathing, the sound of bells and chimes, and the repetitive nature of the music, which is similar to minimal music.

A1: 鹿の遠音
B1: 虚空鈴慕
