This is the 1979 debut album by Danish pianist Jorgen Emborg, who showcases his skills in high-quality Danish jazz. Emborg has participated in various projects such as the one-off group Alpha Centauri with Palle Mikkelborg and Bo Stief, as well as collaborations with Mads Vinding and Hanne Boel. This album features Emborg leading a quartet with Jan zum Vohrde (sax, ft), Peter Danstrup (b), and Aage Tanggaard (ds). Throughout the album, Emborg not only demonstrates his prowess on acoustic piano but also utilizes electric piano and synthesizers extensively, creating a distinctive floating sensation with open-minded crossover/jazz-rock elements. This record, reminiscent of the refined sensibility of Northern Europe, particularly approaches the excellence of the 1977 masterpiece "Blow Up" by Graf/Havensjo/Eberson/Christensen, previously featured in the guidebook "obscure sound." While the album contains many great tracks, the standout is undoubtedly "B4," featuring guest appearances by singer Marilyn Mazur and guitarist Karsten Houmark. The artwork is also outstanding. Highly recommended.
B1: Februarkrystaller
