This is the 1982 debut album by American saxophonist Odean Pope, who was known for his work with Catalyst in the 1970s on labels like Cobblestone and Muse, as well as his contributions to Max Roach's group. Titled "Odean's List," it features a one-horn trio with Gerald Veasley on bass and Cornell Rochester on drums. The album showcases cutting-edge avant-garde jazz with elements of jazz-funk/fusion throughout. Highlights include Veasley's imaginative bass solos on track A2 and the superb depiction of mystical landscapes by the tenor saxophone and bass on track A3. This album remains a hidden gem, displaying Pope's talent and pushing the boundaries of jazz.
