This is the 1979 album by American saxophonist Arthur Blythe, who debuted after joining the Underground Musicians and Artists Association founded by Horace Tapscott in the mid-1960s. Blythe went on to work with various groups, including Chico Hamilton, Gil Evans, Jack DeJohnette, and McCoy Tyner. The album features a powerful septet lineup with Cecil McBee (bass), Jack DeJohnette (drums), James Newton (flute), James "Blood" Ulmer (guitar), Guillermo Franco (percussion), and Bob Stewart (tuba). The tracks showcase a bright and groovy Latin beat in A1, and the title track A2 that revolves around a swinging groove with a thrilling and inventive development. The album, blending ethnic influences with contemporary jazz, presents a splendid performance that elevates old jazz to a contemporary level. Highly recommended.

A1: Down San Diego Way
