A highly unusual gem came in. This is the debut album from Scottish multi-instrumentalist Bob Stewart, released in 1975. Stewart, known for his extensive research into Celtic traditions, mythology, and music, has left behind numerous written works. This album features the Psaltery, an instrument with 24 piano wires stretched across a wooden box, played by plucking the strings with fingers. The Psaltery is the precursor to instruments like the dulcimer and harp-seated chord, and Stewart's compositions showcase its delicate and translucent melodies, inviting listeners into a mystical realm. From traditional music arrangements to original compositions, Stewart incorporates synthesizer pads, guitars, and the concertina (a type of accordion), crafting a unique sonic landscape. In a sense, it's highly experimental, and its mysticism unintentionally synchronizes with elements of American New Age music. Highly recommended.
