This is a 1981 album by American tenor saxophonist Chico Freeman, a highly regarded rare groove artist who has produced many masterpieces during his career, ranging from avant/free to ethnic jazz and standards. The album joined with James Newton (ft), Kenny Crickland (p), Jay Hoggard (vb), June Koenig (cello), Buster Williams (b), Billy Hart (ds), Paulinho da Costa (per), Efrain Toro (per). The crossover approach unique to this period is superb, from Latin/Brazilian jazz like A1 with its cool, light percussion and elegant flute, and B1 with its pleasant jungle percussion and vibe melody, to meditative pieces with a contemporary musical flavor like B2 with its gentle cello, flute, and clarinet sounds that express morning prayer.
