Dan Wall is an American jazz pianist who played in Karl Ratzer's group in the late 70's and was a member of the John Abercrombie Trio in the 90's. This is his first leader album, released in 1980, with Steve Grossman (ss), Mike Richmond (b), Jimmy Madison (dr), and the quartet. A1 features the floating pad sounds of Arp Omni. B1 features a cosmic solo by Moog Synthesizer over an Afro-polyrhythmic beat. The album contains everything from uplifting fusions like this to emotional piano solos that tug at the heartstrings. This is a little-known work, but very excellently performed, and I recommend it to those who like the Pat Metheny Group and New Age flavored jazz.
