French composer/pianist Jacques Bouniard, who has been active in a wide range of fields from jazz to rock/pop since the late 1970s, released his first leader album in 1986. The album features drummer Joel Allouche, who has played in Italian bassist Paolo Damiani's group and Dutch jazz group Reflexionen, and reed player Michel Marre, who has played with Archie Shepp and Mal Waldron. The sextet includes Michel Marre, a reed player who has played with Archie Shepp and Mal Waldron, and a rhythm section with bossa rhythms and a lightly dancing flute and piano. The album opens with a thrilling solo performance by a mute trumpet with organic sounding percussion and an ethnic tabla beat, and moves on to B1. (Chee)
