This is a one-off project featuring Mariah members Yasuaki Shimizu (ts), Masanori Sasaji (keys), Hideo Yamaki (ds), with Motohiko Hamase (b), releasing a jazz album in 1982. It includes recordings from a live performance held at Roppongi Pitt-In in May of the same year. The album opens with a cool narration by Jimmy Murakawa, leading into a speedy and progressive cover of Dizzy Gillespie's classic on track A1. Track A4 with its avant-garde intro is particularly intense, and B2 shines with Shimizu's sultry saxophone. The performance traverses between post-bop and Weather Report-esque fusion, delivering a dynamic and impressive show. These recordings likely took place around the time Mariah was recording "Red Party," showcasing glimpses of experimental moments. Shimizu's focus seems to be shifting towards the creation of "Utakata no Hibi" produced the following year, marking the conclusion of this approach to jazz for the time being.
